In an article, United Wholesale Mortgage said it plans to accept cryptocurrencies as mortgage payments by the end of the year.
Mat Ishbia, CEO of Wholesale Mortgage, said of these plans:
"We're excited (this year) to hopefully be able to do that before anyone else in the country."
And he added that UWM will want to accept many cryptos, saying:
“I think we started with Bitcoin, but we are looking at Ethereum and others. We will walk before we run, but at the same time, we are leaders in technology and innovation, and we always strive to be the best and the leader in everything we do."
Canada-based Digital payments company Mogo said it will expand its Bitcoin Cashback rewards program by adding mortgages.
Mogo CEO David Feller said:
“It is clear that we are still in the early stages of seeing consumers add bitcoin to their financial portfolios, just as we see companies adding it to their balance sheets. Given the volatility and speculative nature of bitcoin, there is a growing number of Canadians looking for ways to participate without risking their own money, and our bitcoin rewards program is meeting that demand.”
"The residential mortgage market in Canada is a huge market estimated at around $1.7 trillion, and we are pleased to offer Canadians a great way to buy a mortgage and earn bitcoin at the same time."
