Jayson Stewart, mayor of Cool Valley, Missouri, USA, said that he wants to give 1000 dollars in bitcoins to every citizen of his city, which has a population of 1500.
Stewart said:
“It would be $500, it would be $1,000; I would like to see every single household in this city receive some Bitcoin.”
The mayor said that he has found donors who will provide the necessary budget to distribute to the people and that these donors are ready to give millions of dollars.
As it is known, El Salvador, which accepts bitcoin as a legal payment instrument this year, plans to give its citizens $30 worth of bitcoin.
Stewart's only condition is that the given bitcoins are not sold immediately.
The President said:
“Maybe these are (distributed) in such a way that you can't use them for five years. My biggest worry is that someone will go and sell this Bitcoin to pay off a car loan and regret what they did when the Bitcoin price hits $500,000 years later.”
Stewart is also considering the possibility of using the municipal coffers or receiving government funding, apart from donors.
