Mastercard acquires cryptocurrency tracking firm CipherTrace, aiming to provide "additional transparency and support" for the digital asset ecosystem

CipherTrace is known as an analytics platform for the tracking and anonymization of cryptocurrencies, and an organization specializing in crypto-focused anti-money laundering, forensics, and blockchain threat intelligence solutions.
Mastercard and CipherTrace's "integrated offering," their companies said in a press release accompanying the news.
Ajay Bhalla, Head of Cyber and Intelligence at Mastercard, said:
“Digital assets have the potential to reimagine commerce, from the everyday actions of making and receiving payments, to transforming economies, to make them more inclusive and efficient. With the rapid growth of the digital asset, ecosystem comes the need to ensure it is safe and secure. We aim to leverage the complementary capabilities of Mastercard and CipherTrace to do just that.”
Mastercard has expressed its interest in the crypto space by expressing that it plans to start supporting certain cryptocurrencies directly on the network in the first months of this year.
