The Chilean opposition party leader wanted the cryptocurrency to be recognized as the official asset class and said he has Ethereum.
According to an incoming report, Giorgio Jackson, founder of the Democratic Revolution political party, which has 10 seats in the lower house, said he has a small amount of ETH.
Jackson spoke at an event hosted by the Buddha crypto exchange, discussing the Chilean idea of El Salvador's bitcoin following the legal tender, saying:
“I'm not closing myself on the possibility of [following the Salvador example], but I'm skeptical. And there is currently not enough reason to argue that it is ideal or optimal to have a cryptocurrency as a legal tender in any country.”
Apart from that, he defended the legal changes and said that crypto tokens should be recognized as assets, although some issues are hurting the industry.
Jackson noted that volatility and energy consumption issues could also be barriers to mainstream adoption.
Jackson said that innovation and technology require action, while fintech and crypto-related legislation is needed as soon as possible.
Jackson said these words:
“We need to pass a fintech law and find a way to get it implemented. The idea of allowing the [fintech industry] to challenge financial institutions seems fundamental to me.”
